Shingeru Miyamoto came up with the initial idea of the game which evolved into the famous Donkey Kong. Along side a programmer, they used conversion kits which allowed them to turn the Radar Scope arcade games into Donkey Kong. However, there was a problem, the game was initially meant to be based on POPEYE. However, due to a new movie coming out soon after the idea of the game, Nintendo did not own the rights to use POPEYE as their character. So, they changed POPEYE to Mario, Olive Oyl to Pauline (The Princess) and Buto to Donkey Kong.

You are in control of the character Mario. Mario was named by the warehouse owner, which is where Nintendo stored their games and other products. The clothes Mario wears clearly is a representation of a carpenter. It is clear that Mario is male due to his looks and the classic French Moustache. The female character in the game is Pauline (The Princess). Initially meant to be Olive-Oyl but once again Nintendo did not own the rights to use the character so they had to re-think the character's identity and name. She got her name from the Warehouse Managers wife, who was named Pauline. Due to the amount of obstacles Mario goes through to save Pauline (The Princess), clearly shows that Mario is in pure love with her. Towerfall is an Action, Fighting, Indie, Platform Video Game. This game was created by Matt Thorson through his company Matt Makes Games.
Narrative / Storyline
The players have to ascend the tower through levels, whilst fighting off archers who are trying to stop them from making their way up. Players gain skills and items throughout the process to make them able to fight harder archers.
Production Process
The game was developed and produced by Matt Thorson. The game was designed to fire without charging and to bias towards targets so as to give the player "more leeway". Thorson also chose to limit the aim direction to the eight ordinal directions rather than affording complex 360 controls. They also added levels, items, a store, and a story based on ascending the tower. The game came together about 6 months into development. The game mechanics were inspired by Thorson's youth.
Characters
Towerfall starts with four selectable characters: The Vigilante Thief, The Turncloak Soldier, Last of the Order and Assassin Prince. However, another four characters are able to be unlocked if certain conditions are met, bringing the total to eight playable characters.
Gameplay
Towerfall is a mixture of action, strategy and timing. This means that the game revolves around being quick to react and recognise where the characters are and what there are doing.
Target Audience
Due to the split genders in the game, the target audience is set for both genders. However, it is more likely that it will be dominated by males due to the popularity of gamers being male. There is also no set target audience for the age as it can be for all ages, as it is quite animated but also involves action.

Depression Quest

I think the point of the game is to try and get you think think about wether you have any similarities to the character in the game. I think the game is trying to make you think about if you think you have depression yourself, without asking you directly.

I do think it worked. It went into a decent amount of detail about depression without telling you directly again.
Genre
A free interactive fiction game.
Narrative / Storyline
The game, created by Quinn, the writer Patrick Lindsey, and the musician Isaac Sahankler, casts its player as a young adult suffering from depression.
Production Process
Depression Quest was first released online as a web browser game on February 14, 2013. Quinn also submitted the game through Steam's Greenlight program and consequently received disparaging comments and hate mail, causing her to withdraw the game from the service. After receiving positive feedback from players who has played the game and receiving an invitation to Indiecade, she tried Greenlight again. The game was accepted by Greenlight in January 2014, and was released on Steam in August that year. The day it was due to go live, news broke that actor Robin Williams had died from a suspected suicide. Quinn considered delaying the Steam release, as she did not want to be seen as taking advantage of Williams' death. She eventually decided to keep to the original release schedule, as she thought that making the game available to those struggling with their own problems was more important than any negative publicity she might receive.

Narrative / Storyline
There is no narrative or storyline for this game. Anything you think is leading you onto something else in the game is completely made up by the mind of the gamer.
Production Process
The game began development in 2008 under game designer Ed Key, joined by audio designer and composer David Kanaga in 2010. Key first conceived Proteus as an open-ended role-playing game akin to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion; but, because of the work required for such a project, the team redesigned it to be "nontraditional and nonviolent". The PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of Proteus were developed by Curve Studios, whose team added extra features to the Vita edition at Sony's behest.

Characters
The only character in the game is yourself. When you spawn you are in the water and there is no one else around you. There are animals and bees, but you are the only human on the island or in the ocean.
Gameplay
In Proteus, players explore an island from a first-person perspective. The island is drawn in a pixel style and contains hills, trees, structures, and animals such as frogs and rabbits, though the layout is different each time the game is played. The focus of the game is on exploration rather and interaction, as there is no narrative and the player is given no instructions on how to proceed. Possible interactions are limited - for example, animals run away when players come too close. The soundtrack changed depends on the player's movements and location; it may fall silent when the player is at the top of a hill and sonically dense as they travel down it. The soundtrack includes additional sounds and notes when the player nears objects or animals.
Target Audience
The target audience for Proteus is for everybody. There is no set target audience for the game, simply due to the lack of information with the game. There is not enough information to pull towards a set group of people.
